The Jury Clerk’s Office is central to the County’s civil and criminal trial systems.  The office is responsible for coordinating the County’s jury system.  Specifically, Jury Clerk Martha A. Sebring selects prospective jurors at random from a computer database containing County residents driver’s license information provided yearly from Penn Dot and Voter Registration rolls.

In an effort to streamline the jury selection process during the ongoing courthouse renovations, prospective jurors for both Civil and Criminal Court are then assembled at the Quality Inn in downtown Easton.  Upon judicial request for a jury panel, the County transports jurors from the Quality Inn to the Northampton County Courthouse via shuttle.  This process is expected to continue at the Quality Inn until courthouse renovations are completed in mid 2007.

In recognition of the inconvenience jury duty may pose to both the personal and professional lives of residents, Northampton County utilizes a one day/one trial jury system, which typically limits the length of jury duty to one day.  During the process, every effort is made to provide jurors with a positive experience, while also offering a greater insight into the judicial system.  During 2006, there were 21,500 prospective jurors summoned to jury duty for both civil and criminal trials.
