Law Day
On May 1, 2007, the Northampton County Court of Common Pleas and the Northampton County Bar Association welcomed 425 middle school students from area public and parochial schools to the annual Law Day Celebration. The goal of this program is to give students a better understanding and appreciation of our trial system. The students were escorted to multiple courtrooms for a variety of presentations. The Honorable Paula A. Roscioli presided over a mock guilty plea hearing, presented by Assistant District Attorney Jacqueline Taschner and Daniel O’Donnell, Esquire. Northampton County Coroner Zachery Lysek, Corporal Christopher Lengle of the Pennsylvania State Police, and City of Bethlehem Police Investigator Jeffrey Mauer, gave an interesting presentation on crime scene investigation. Officer Daniel Barsnica of the Bethlehem Township Police Department gave an exciting presentation with the assistance of his K-9 “Castro”. Northampton County Deputy Sheriff George Volpe spoke to the students about local gang activity and provided information to students about the dangers of associating with gangs. Northampton County Law Clerks led the students through a mock jury selection activity. Participating teachers also received a written curriculum intended to reinforce the basic trial terminology and procedures presented in the program, through classroom exercises and activities. Law Day continues to be a popular program that is both entertaining and educational. | |
