COURT OF COMMON PLEAS, NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, PA
Orphans' Court

Missy Binder

Missy Binder, Clerk in the Orphans’ Court processing a marriage license.
Though small in size, the Orphans’ Court is responsible for many duties.  Some of the many matters handled include decedents’ estates, trusts, guardian appointments of minors and incapacitated persons, adoptions, termination of parental rights and marriage licenses.  Dorothy L. Cole is the Clerk of Orphans’ Court.  The majority of the Orphans’ Court hearings are held every Tuesday.  The matters consist of adoptions, relinquishments and guardianships.  In addition, the Orphans’ Court can issue certified copies of birth and death certificates from records on file from 1893 to 1936.  Marriage licenses can be obtained from the Orphans’ Court.  Persons applying must appear in the office to make application and be sworn in.  Only applicants being married in Pennsylvania may make application.  The license is valid after a three-day waiting period.
