Status Conferences (Civil Cases)
A vital segment of the Northampton County Civil Process is the status conference which is held within ninety (90) days of a party filing a petition and is a major catalyst in moving civil cases through the system in a timely manner. Generally, either a Senior Judge or the Court Administrator conducts status conferences with attorneys or un-represented parties via telephone. Through this process, an order of court is established setting forth deadlines for the completion of service, filing of petitions for alternative service, completion of pleadings, joinder of additional parties, and discovery. Upon the case being moved through the discovery period, it is scheduled for a pretrial conference at the earliest possible date. The status process is credited with ensuring cases are moved through the civil system in an equitable and consistent manner. It further enables parties to initiate resolution efforts and expedites the preparation of civil cases entering the trial process.
