Actual Costs of Northampton County Court
The 2006 budget for Northampton County was $349,335,542. The Court of Common Pleas budget allocation amounted to $24,860,321 or approximately 7.1% of the total county budget. Actual court expenditures of $23,548,491 account for 6.7% of the total county budget. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania pays the salaries and benefits of the Judges, District Justices, and effective January 1, 2000 assumed financial responsibility for the Court Administrator, Assistant Court Administrator, and Deputy Court Administrator. All other personnel serving the court are County employees and are paid as such. With the exception of the judicial and district justice personnel costs as noted, the county is responsible for all expenses associated with Court operations.
Court revenues collected in 2006 amounted to $11,680,146 and included reimbursement from the Commonwealth for each judicial office, jury costs, appointed attorneys’ fees, fees charged by the various divisions including the supervision fee for Adult Probation and program fees within the D.U.I. Program, grant monies from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency and federal and state reimbursements in the Domestic Relations and Juvenile areas. These collected revenues account for approximately 47.0% of the cost of the Court’s allocated budget or 49.6% of the Court’s actual expenditures. Thus, the Court of Common Pleas adjusted expenditures, after deducting revenues, accounted for 3.4% of the total county budget.
