Domestic Relations Facility
While exploring the space allocation of all government related offices, the Northampton County Steering Committee, consisting of the three distinct branches of government, concluded it would be fiscally responsible to construct a new Domestic Relations facility. Construction of a new Domestic Relations facility will permit the County to recover two-thirds (2/3) reimbursement for all County capital expenditures under the Title IV-D Program of the Social Security Act, which is administered through the Department of Public Welfare.
Acknowledging the Domestic Relations Division has 74 employees that manage nearly 14,000 cases involving support for children, it was determined a 20,000 square foot, two-story facility would meet the needs of staff and provide a secure private environment for all Domestic Relations litigants. The facility, estimated to cost $3,000,000, will possess hearing rooms and offices. It will be located on the vacant lot that formerly possessed the St. Bernard’s convent on Union Street in Easton. USA Architects, which was selected for the project and previously designed the new Juvenile Justice Center, has established a conceptual design that will meet the historical character of the neighborhood and enhance the overall County campus that comprises the Northampton County Seat. The Court is grateful to the County Administration and County Council for acknowledging the needs of the family court, the growth of the County, and the need to provide effective, dignified service for those citizens affected by the Domestic Relations process.
